1.1 Background of the Study
Idah Local Government Area (LGA) in Kogi State is prone to environmental challenges, including severe erosion that threatens agricultural land, infrastructure, and local livelihoods. Soil erosion, exacerbated by deforestation, poor land use practices, and climate change, has become a pressing issue in the region. Addressing this problem requires not only technical interventions but also widespread awareness and community involvement in erosion control practices. Photography, with its capacity to visually communicate the devastating effects of erosion, can be an effective tool in raising awareness and advocating for sustainable land management practices. This study aims to investigate how photography can be used to raise awareness about erosion in Idah LGA and promote proactive environmental conservation efforts.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Erosion in Idah LGA continues to damage agricultural land and infrastructure, yet there remains a lack of comprehensive awareness and action to address the issue. While various stakeholders are involved in erosion control measures, the role of visual representation in raising awareness and influencing behavior change has been underexplored. Photography can effectively document the extent of erosion, highlight its negative consequences, and create an emotional appeal for urgent action. This study seeks to examine how photography can contribute to raising awareness about erosion and its impacts in Idah LGA.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypotheses
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it explores the power of photography in addressing environmental issues, specifically erosion. By documenting the effects of erosion through visual media, the study aims to raise awareness and spur collective action in Idah LGA. The findings could contribute to ongoing efforts to combat environmental degradation in the region and provide insights into the use of visual media for environmental advocacy.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to Idah LGA in Kogi State and focuses on the use of photography to raise awareness about erosion. The research does not extend to other environmental issues or regions outside of Idah LGA.
